Yangon * Bagan * Mindat * Tribal Villages & Markets * Mandalay * Inle Lake
This one-of-a-kind trip focuses on the animist cultures, tribal life,
festivals, and the great cities of Yangon, Bagan and Mandalay in this
historical and ethnically diverse nation. Explore the breathtaking ruins,
the legacy of the temple building frenzy of Bagan's Golden Era. Cross the
Irrawaddy River by boat and drive along dusty, rough roads to arrive in
the seldom-visited Mindat Mountains deep in Chin country. The Chin are
highly regarded as skilled hunters and weavers. Due to rugged terrain and
near isolation, these tribes and villages have remained fairly untouched.
Meet the gorgeous Chin women with their distinctive facial tattoos, hand
woven textiles, silver belts and amber beads. Join the intriguing Chin
tribes in their spiritual songs and dances while Chin men play their
amazing nose flutes!
Drive through pine forests to Inle Lake, the serene home of the predominantly
Buddhist Intha people. They are known for their unique leg rowing,
floating flower and herb gardens, villages of silk and cotton weavers
and colorful tribal markets. This scenic area with its mountains and forests
is home to the Pa O tribes with their colorful checkered turbans and
unique lifestyle. Visit the ancient capital of Mandalay, Burma's second
largest city. It has numerous interesting cultural and religious sites
and produces excellent woven silks, marble carvings, tapestries, and gold
leaf. Spend a quiet moment at the peaceful Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon and
view a gorgeous sunset over its dazzling bell-shaped superstructure.
To make the most of your tribal experience, we suggest the 7-Day Hill Tribes of Bangladesh extension.
